A film studio you rent by the project, not by the month
Most of our customers do not make a film every week. A landscape studio needs one client walkthrough; a photographer wants a single launch reel; a journalist has one explainer to animate. Paying a monthly subscription for a tool you touch twice a year makes no sense — so LightUp Studio is also available as a one-time creative add-on. Buy a Studio Day Pass, build your project, and the only thing you ever pay again is the Grok compute that project consumes.
How it works
- Pay once to unlock. The access fee opens the full Studio suite for a single project — world building, AI casting, the shot-by-shot script, storyboarding and clip generation.
- Pay for Grok as you go. Every image and every video clip Studio generates is billed as a metered pass-through of xAI's own rates. You are charged for exactly what you render — no bundles, no "credits" that expire.
- See the total before you commit. Studio shows a running cost estimate as you plan, so you approve the spend before a single clip is generated.
- Keep everything. The finished clips, keyframes and the whole project live in your own workspace — under your control, like every other file on LightUp.Cloud.
What a minute of film really costs
We do not guess at these numbers — we measured them. On a representative production run, a 44-second finished film was assembled from 14 generated clips, about 21 generated stills and two dozen reference images. Billed at xAI's console rates, that works out to roughly $10 to $18 per finished minute of 1080p video, with the Grok video generation (about $0.60 per clip) being the dominant line. Lower resolutions and shorter social cuts cost proportionally less. Whatever it comes to, it is passed straight through to you at cost — the Day Pass is our only margin.
How long it takes
AI video is compute-heavy, and we would rather set expectations honestly than pretend it is instant. On the same measured run, generating the clips took roughly 14 minutes of render time per finished minute of video; a full project that also generates all its keyframes and runs continuity checks lands closer to 25–30 minutes per finished minute. You start the render, close the tab, and come back to finished clips — the work happens on our side, not yours.
Who it is for
The Day Pass is built for exactly the people LightUp.Cloud already serves — architects, landscape and interior designers, photographers and journalists — who occasionally need a short, polished, animated piece without hiring a production house or committing to a creative-software subscription. If you find yourself making films every week, a plan with Studio included will be cheaper; for everyone else, pay once and only for what you use.
